I Want to Be a Receptionist in the Magic World CHAPTER 6 Part 1

UNTIL I BECAME A RECEPTIONIST

CHAPTER 6 Part 1

Translator: Masakibluei
It has been 5 years since I entered this school.
Now I’m 17 years old.

Nanari: “What to do. I can’t sleep.”

Benjamin: “Just go to sleep, okay. If you are sleepy tomorrow and drag your feet around, I won’t forgive you.”

Nanari: “Uuu. That’s mean.”

Not long after that, Benjamin throws a pillow towards me who is finally asleep while chewing my hair on the upper bed. She is mad because I make too many noises.

Even if you cannot go to sleep, you do not need to throw pillow at others. Furthermore, the pillow is pretty hard. It should not be used to throw at others. Originally, the dorm provided us with a soft pillow, but Benjamin rejected it harshly because she said it’s no good to sleep with. Then in the second year, Benjamin finally brought her favorite pillow from home and boasted ‘How do you think?’ to Nike and I. But, no matter how you looked at it, the pillow was too hard and unpleasant to the touch moreover to sleep with. I nearly blurted out my honest opinion but I got to hold it down to the point that my face was twitching. I still can’t forget the incident up until now. After that, I also remember that for the next 3 days 3 nights, together with Nike, we were discussing whether that ‘hard block’ can be called a pillow.

Yup. That’s why it hurts. If I’m going to participate in a pillow fight with this ‘block’, I certainly will kill someone. Moreover, I got a direct hit in the forehead by the corner of the ‘block’. I writhe in agony while rubbing my injury. I wish she can understand that her own pillow can inflict injury or kill someone.

“I still cannot believe that the students from the same room at the dorm will be grouped together,” said Nike while laying on her back on top of the bed and extending her hand on the air. Benjamin adds, ‘me too,’ and then she turns her body from sideways to face upwards and lays on her back.

I too, who was crouching in agony just a moment ago, for some reason also turn my body to face upward as well. While rubbing my forehead, I gaze at the column and ceiling on the top. From the window by the side of my bed, I can see clearly the sky full of stars through the glass.

In the fifth grade, there is a special class visit called Battle Technique Major Competition. The Battle Technique Major Competition in general terms, is a stage where fellow students compete with each other in a battle while using magic. Rather than a class, it’s more like a tournament. The place for the tournament is the arena across the school building where we usually used it for practical classes. At that place, all of the 5 grades students will compete with each other.

There will be many special visitors coming to the school for the event. There will be the King and the Queen of Dolan, the Chief of the Chivalric Order, and even the higher-ups from Hare company. According to the teacher, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase your ability for your future employment. I also heard that the school holds the tournament for this purpose as well. If you perform really well, perhaps you will get a recommendation or a job offer by the time you become the 6th grades.

I can’t ever miss this one precious chance!

Benjamin: “I wonder if the team has been decided since the beginning of the dorm roommate placement?”

Nike: “E--- Somehow it’s scary.”

As she hears Benjamin’s words, Nike rubs both of her arms repeatedly.

The tournament will be held tomorrow. There are 2 stages of the tournament. In the beginning, the tournament will start with team competition where each team fight with each other. Then the 2nd stage is an individual competition. Furthermore, the group will be formed between the roommates of the same room at the dormitory. This means that Nike, Benjamin and I will be on the same team.

Benjamin: “But it concerns of doing magic, after all, I’m not really sure about tomorrow.”

Nike: “Benjamin………Well, that’s true.”

Naturally, since we became the 5th grades, the three of us have been doing some special training together in order to master our magic perfectly. Even after school, the sight of all the 5 grades students are practicing at the arena or confining themselves at the library has become natural occurrences. Everyone is desperately practicing to become the best. Henceforward, lately, there is a fearsome glint on everyone’s eyes.

Benjamin is Nike’s partner for the special training. Her fire magic had been extinguished by Nike’s water magic so many times and she also got soaked as the result. Therefore, Benjamin’s emotions together with her hair were flaring up in fire and I sometimes also got burned as a consequence. After a few seconds, Benjamin said ‘sorry’ lightly but I still feel like I’m being punished. It’s certainly a special training to sharpen our sense and body.

Benjamin: “Nevertheless, I don’t want to fight with Lockman’s group.”

Nike: “I also don’t want that……But Nanari is different though.”

Nanari: “What, what did you say?”

After I said that I don’t like that and keep grumbling, Nike shouted ‘You are noisy!’ while she threw a pillow at me.

Why am I always become the target of the thrown pillow……

Nanari: “Ugh! That’s hurt! ……Aaa but I’m looking forward to fighting with Lockman. Uuuuh.”

Nike: “See. I told you so.”

Benjamin: “True.”

Of course, my relationship with that guy who sits beside me for the past 5 years is still hostile as usual. Not a long time ago, we had nothing more than a fistfight between boy and girl, but lately, our fights have become some kind of special training. Speaking of it, I’m easily beaten up since he never gives any mercy to me. I’m so irritated.

However, taking advantage of the special training, that guy purposely attacked me when I was tired. My resentments have been piling up near to the maximum and it is on the verge of explosion.

In retaliation, I tried to make a surprise attack. Some time ago, I made an exclusive trap magic tool and I put the trap inside the pit that I dug. My resentments were nearly deflated when I saw him fall into my trap. But it was for naught. He got away in the end. This incident just makes me want to redo it again but next time I will definitely give him 10 times back.

There is also the exam from the other day…Aaa I really hate to talk about this. This time as well, I splendidly earned the 2nd rank during the magic midterm examination. Yes, it was a complete defeat. In conclusion, I might have a talent for 2nd place. Not the first nor the last, but I became a guardian god that protects the 2nd position to the end.  There might be a festival in the future to worship me after my death and my believers will chant, “Hooray Hell-sama! The 2nd place God!”

Although I said that, I still certainly feel that the 1st place is more amazing and I don’t want to stay as a 2nd place. 2nd place is mortifying for me. What is the good of becoming a guardian god for 2nd place? I don’t want to stay as 2nd place until I die.

Then in this life, towards that guy, I want to strike him down and defeat him right in front of me. While aiming to become a receptionist at Hare like that big sister, I also want to become a better magician than him and dispel all my previous humiliations.

However, 2nd place is still considered as top ranks. It is a fact that every year I always get 2nd place. I think I’m still lacking because of I never able to get the 1st. The reason is, on top of me, Lockman is always there.

No no no. If I admit that he is always on top of me, then the match is already over.

Anyway, I know that I need more than grades to be employed at Hare. If I’m aiming to become a receptionist like that big sister, it’s crucial to be able to do some business affairs or socializing with people. Mastering magic is a prerequisite for employment. However, after that, there are some other skills that you need to master other than magic. I’m still not giving up about getting the 1st place, but once the tournament is over, it might be a good idea to broaden my horizon. I probably should start to look for a book on how to do office work or a book on interviewing or communicating with people. I can try to find out as many as I can at the library.

Hence, before I do all of that, I will instantly breakthrough tomorrow's challenges and stand on the top!

Nike: “Let’s go to sleep.”

Benjamin: “Yeah.”

Then Benjamin takes her pillow back from my place and goes back to her bed. Nike also takes back her pillow and said ‘Good night’. After that, the two of them fall asleep. Soon after I turn off the lamp beside my bed and reply to her ‘Good Night’.
