Reason to Go Ahead

This is might be the last sleep in my life. While I am having such a thought, I take out a blanket from the items bag. The life on the 20^th floor feels so long. The blanket has turned black and very dirty.

We decided to take a break to prepare ourselves for the fight with the Mid Boss. Fortunately, there are no monsters around the area which are likely to approach our resting place. Finally,  once for a while, I might be able to rest for the first time.

Before I realize it, the two of us are lying side by side under one blanket and go to sleep. As usual, Erin is laying down beside me.

Erin: “I decided that I won’t utter any fainthearted remark, but can I just say one thing?”

Erin turns her body towards me and lets out one long sigh which hits my ears. I shrug my shoulder to ease the ticklish feeling.

Note: “What is it?”

Erin: “You really do want to fight against the Mid Boss, right?”

Note: “It’s not fighting. I plan to stall some time and run away.”

Erin: “But it’s still the same thing.”

Suddenly I feel that my hand is tightly grasped.

Erin: “Actually for me, I don’t really hate our life right now.”

Note: “Our life right now?”

Erin: “Like I said, I don’t hate our current life like this where I can talk with Note without any discretion. “

Note: “So?”

I actually understand what she wants to say, but I deliberately refute her.

That is an absolutely ideal life. Two people can live happily until they die without carrying the pain in their hearts.

Erin: “Why don’t you stop thinking about challenging the Mid Boss and enjoy the tremendous happiness in the remaining of limited time? Although this place is dangerous, if I am together with you, I think we can live like this for a long time.”

Erin seems to think the same thing as I did.

Erin: “We can sleep and embrace each other. Let’s kiss all day long. After that, let’s gradually do a lot of things together until we are tired of it. Just like that, you have an option to spend the rest of your life in happiness until you die.”

After she said that, Erin invites my hand to touch her chest. I feel the attractiveness of her decadent proposal from back of my throat to my hand. Weaving days by days with each other, I feel that this seems like the shortest way to gain our happiness.

The heartbeat which I can feel from the palm of my hand gives me some sensation to draw out my impulse.

Before I was able to utter even one word out, Erin already beat me to it.

Erin: “But, you won’t choose that option, right? By judging from your face, I understand already. You won’t stop on going with your plan. “

Note: “Yes…”

It is exactly as what Erin said. For me, I can’t just leap into that kind of ideal life. Because I have already determined to go back to the Purith town together with Erin. After all, I want to give her a salvation in the true meaning, not a mere temporary relief.

Erin: “I thought so. Therefore, I just want to confirm your reply. If Note decided not to go forward with this plan, by no means, I will never blame you.”

I relied my thanks for Erin’s concern. It was a kind gesture which was unimaginable if it was her old self. She never used to think about me like this.

Erin: “Then, don’t die. You have to make it alive and go back home.”

As I look at Erin’s smile, I am unable to resist the urge to hug her tight. The reasons to stay alive and go back home have increased again. With this, there is no other choice except to sacrifice myself in order to get at least only Erin out of this place.

Erin: “Somehow, I can fell asleep if I feel safe.”

Note: “What’s that? Well, let’s go to sleep for tomorrow.”

Erin: “Yeah, good night. “

Note: “Good night. “

Just like that, Erin entrusts herself and lays her head on my chest. With my other free hand, I stoke Erin’s hair. Her hair is thin, brittle and a little bit rough to touch. Unknowingly, I have been wanting to touch it.

Once I close my eyes, tomorrow will come earlier.

This is the first time that I don’t want tomorrow to come.
